Our Coaching Team

The Club provides coaching by qualified personnel. Our principal coaches are all experienced rowers, each holding a fistful of Championship medals.

BIC Holders
As well as these highly qualified rowing coaches, many of the Club’s other senior members are holders of SARA's Basic Instructor's Certificate (BIC). This is a certificate of competence in rowing instruction and boat handling. It qualifies the holder to book out the SARA boats stored at the Park for their own or others' use and to teach beginners the rudiments of rowing and sculling. These BIC holders help out with beginner instruction under the supervision of a coach holding a more advanced qualification.

The High Performance Group is coached by PeterBarton. Peter is the Club's most highly qualified and experienced coach. He was one of Scotland's Team Coaches when the Commonwealth Games Regatta was held at the Park in 1986. In addition, he has brought on many crews to win medals at Scottish and British Championship Regattas and at international regattas in Europe.

The Intermediate Seniors are looked after by Fraser Scott. Fraser is a Scottish internationalist and category winner at the prestigious Clyde Head of the River Race for Scullers. He has toured successfully in North America. A persistent injury has forced Fraser to abstain from rowing and he has now turned his attention to coaching, to the benefit of the club’s seniors. Fraser is qualified to drive the Park’s catamaran launches.

Adult Beginners and Novices are organised by Philip Glennie. Phil is an experienced rower and sculler, competing in 2007 in his second World Masters Regatta. He has completed the Level 2 Coaching Course.

Karen Barton coaches our Juniors. A Commonwealth Games team member in 1986 and National Championships medallist, Karen has represented Scotland many times and competed at international regattas in Europe. Karen holds the Rowing Instructor’s Certificate.
